Cristina Monticoli, originally from Italy, began her musical studies on the piano at the age of 4. At an early age, she became fascinated with opera; at the age of 13, she fell in love with the oboe. Its sound seemed to her the closest to the human voice. She was soon accepted on oboe at her hometown’s Music Conservatory. She graduated from the Conservatory of Udine in 2002, studying with Maestro P. Pellarin; she then pursued a Biennium Higher degree in oboe at the same Conservatory, graduating with 110/110 cum laude. Since 2012 she has studied with Maestro Luca Vignali, principal oboe of “Teatro dell’Opera di Roma”. She has attended masterclasses with teachers A. Mayer, M. Sarc, N. Daniel, S. Rava and woodwinds quintets “Quintetto Bibiena” and “Slowind”. In 2004 she got the Absolute 1st Prize in the “Città di Grosseto”, National Competition for Winds (awarded to Kalamos Wind Quintet). She has performed as a soloist with the orchestra of “Solisti in Villa,” the orchestra “San Marco of Pordenone,” the “Gruppo Strumentale Veneto – Malipiero,” and the “Accademia Vivaldiana” in Venice. She has also collaborated with orchestras such as the “Teatro dell ‘ Opera di Roma”, “Teatro Giuseppe Verdi di Trieste”, Symphony Orchestra “La Verdi” in Milan , “Virtuosi Italiani”, the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Helsinborg Symphony Orchestra, Festival Strings Lucerne; and has played under the direction of M. Soustrot, V. Sinaisky, P. Steinberg, B. Campanella, M. Venzago, G. Gemetti, W. Humburg, S.A. Reck, V. Fedoseyev, Xian Zhang, C. St. Clair, H. Schellenberger, W. Marshall, D. Coleman, J. Axelrod, and I. Bolton. She has recorded for Decca, Naxos, RAI, AudioTime and Artemia. Since 2012 Cristina is the principal oboe in the Malmö Symphony Orchestra.
